Herbs: Spotlight Dill

Hello All,

This time we talk about Dill.  I'll bet you are saying "Hey Environgirl, we know all about Dill.  It's used to make pickles and many tasty Italian dishes.  There is nothing new you can tell us about Dill Missy!"  To that I say "Uh huhn!"  While dill is quite tasty in your relishes and general cookery, it is also good company in "craft-work" and in minor ailments.

In cookery whole Dill can be a wonderful herb to use with fish (try making tuna or crab salad with this herb...DELICIOUS), salads, breads, in apple pies and cakes casseroles, soups and vinegars.  Generally the entire herb can be used (except the roots usually). In using fresh or dried Dill one can create soft cheeses(I love homemade cheese with goat's milk, dill and rosemary!).

One can also use this herb to make an astrigent type of soap(I made some for a friend and she swears by it).

Dill has a number of medicinal (I hate the sound of that word.  It feels weird in my mouth ....hey, you know what I mean).  It can be used to aid digestion, ease flatulence and colic when used as an oil in massage, When combined with another essential oil, dill oil gives a pleasant grassy scent.

Magically dill is used for protection when grown around the outside of the home or grown in a pot near the front and back door of a home or on windowsills.  In craft-work use the seeds to draw money, the leaves for protection and the flowers to attract love.  It is magical and aromatic when used in a pouch for protection, love or as a drawer sachet (you know which drawer I mean).

Well that's all for this herb..for now anyway.  Being the kitchen witch that I am I would love to hear or read about any great recipes that incorporate dill.  Until next time!!!

Goddess Bless
