Howdy Howdy All!
Okay I typically try not to get all riled up over your race issues and such but I do tend to have very strong feelings about our so-called melting pot.
Every year around this time folks get all fucken defensive because OH My God--We are gonna be highlighting someone I don't look like!
Well boo fucking hoo!
Try living in a world that relegates you to second class citizenship while working your ass to death for America. (and I aint even talking about Blacks here folks--look around--how many people are enjoying the freedom we offer down on their knees-raising your kids and scrubbing your toilets?)
When it is time to hate foreigners (typically brown ones) well then we Americans are all the God Damn Same!
Fuck that! We aint all the same!
(Shit! I am a black, female, Pagan living in Texas via Mississippi. I have an Afro-tattoos and a tongue piercing-- attending a Catholic University-am more conservative than most people think Liberals actually are. I am pro-reproductive rights but not necessarily pro abortion in most cases---I'll discuss this soon...and I am done biting my tongue. So prepare to hear hell of a lot more about me and my politics this year. Not to mention I am silly enough to think that even in the South most people actually are not bigots--just ignorant to different kinds of people--and discussing thoses differences is what makes us a civilized group-not Suppression!)
We aint all the same! Why is that so bad?
Why is it that noticing and celebrating the differences of others respectfully is fine until the damn tan is a little too damn deep!
If we can Honor slave-holders and pimps then Damn-it we got room for Martin Luther King Jr.
Shit it aint like we running around letting folks off for Malcolm X Day or Nat Turner Day or Touissant L'Oveture Day!
Shit!
We are celebrating a freaking PEACEMAKER! A UNITY PEDDLER!
Seriously what are you really having a problem with? Should there be no day for any American? I'm cool with that. But that aint how we do it in America now is it? No, we exhalt those we deem great and uhm I think one freaking day off to say Hurray for fucking unity and peaceful protest against oppression for ALL (that's right ALL--try listening to rest of his speeches or even reading a few--if you need it I have the Album available for borrowing) is just fucking fine!
And what about other great Americans of the pigmented variety?
Hell, I would LOVE to hear more about the contributions of Americans who migrated here/were kidnapped to here/ or were born here along with information on their background be they Middle Eastern/ Asian/ African/ Mexican/ European or Indigenous (I know that aint all...)
Why are you so threatened by a damn DAY/ MONTH? Why care so much about one person who in actuality would have risked life and limb for anyone's right to simply BE and EXIST in the greatest country on earth?
I don't want to live in a melting pot of homgenous folks who are so much the same that we can look into the faces of passersby and see our whole self instead of who they are first and how they face some of the same struggles as us.
Why melt?
Think about things we melt down every day. How is the item/subject/person corrupted after such a process.
And who should we all melt down to be "like"?
You know I aint gonna say that I walk out the door to folks hurling racial slurs at me but DAILY-every fucking day someone says something so offensive and oppressive that I have to walk around giving assholes the benefit of the doubt so I dont end up in prison. Some of the most offensive incidents I have had AT WORK no less from shoppers are--
Oh you're so well spoken! (excuse me! WTF did you expect me to sound like? I was raised in the same public school system as you and your kids bitch! Turn off COPS and try meeting and interacting with actual black and brown people for a change)
The superfluous use of slang for my benefit! (again Excuse Me! Don't just walk up to me and start in with the "girlfriend" and "sistah" shit immediately. Especially if I have been speaking to you and you didnt hear me say any of this shit to you)
Assuming that I have an attitude because I tell you NO! (all day long, I am the one with the attitude because I have a complaint or because I say the word no. You have no idea how fucking frustrating it is to have to tip-toe around ASSES when I have to voice a concern. We get the eye-rolling oh here we go look or the terrified wide-eyed stare when we get upset about something. So I get to choke that shit down and figure out a way to say it so that NO ONE gets upset. Do you think folks do this shit for me on the daily? Hell NO! Again turn off the damn television and quit swallowing bullshit depictions of your neighbors and meet someone and try to really get to know them.
So hell yes we should openly discuss our differences and not just Tolerate other folks but truly respect them! It's why I read blogs other than my own. I want OTHER kinds of experiences to read about, not the same damn thang I am writing over here! I am too through with all this lame-ass "we're all the same" shit. That is some bull! This aint that kinda country! Deal with it! Here's the gotcha! you dont even have to come to terms with it because guess what? This is America! You can be uh oh 'gasp' DIFFERENT!
Ugh Enjoy your long weekend and uhm feel free to get your ass up on Monday and Work if that's how you roll. I for one will be in the museum district checking out an exhibit on another great American at the Museum of Natural Science--Benjamin Franklin! Yeah! Another American we are celebrating for the next few months here in Houston....
Oh no! Someone alert the New Black Panther Party and get Quanell X down there to protest STAT!
Yeah right....
Happy MLK DAY! (I aint even gonna get started on the self-hating Negros that work my nerves in this post cuz then it would really get rowdy! But don't worry, that rant is coming so fasten your seatbelts!)
How about a quote...here goes...please check out the last line of this quote and get over yourself!
Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech (Dec 1964)
I still believe that one day mankind will bow before the altars of God and be crowned triumphant over war and bloodshed, and nonviolent redemptive goodwill will proclaim the rule of the land.
Most of these people will never make the headlines and their names will not appear in Who's Who. Yet when years have rolled past and when the blazing light of truth is focused on this marvelous age in which we live -- men and women will know and children will be taught that we have a finer land, a better people, a more noble civilization -- because these humble children of God were willing to suffer for righteousness' sake.--Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
