Howdy all! Well my saturday lunch date was a screaming success (not literally,
mind you, but we did play nice) . I made the clam linguine and it tasted great from the reaction and praise I received. We went for a walk through the hiking trails in Memorial park. Yes Myclette the trail of deadly snakes! LOL! A super Keen time was had by all but alas there was a lot left on my saturday to do list and we parted ways.
The friend that was avoiding me told me why after some prodding. I committed an offense over a year ago that was still causing some concern for them. We discussed it, I apologized as I had indeed committed the offense (just because it was of no consequence to me doesnt mean that it wasn't of consequence to them). YAY for reconcilliations!
I went home to complete the rest of the day's duties. I finished the reading and prep work for a class presentation I am giving on Thursday of next week. I talked to the plants to remind them that I have not forgotten them, I've just been busy. I think they understood and forgave me. I played some music for them to solidify the apology (I decided that a little Vegas was in order and made it a Wayne Newton/ Tom Jones afternoon).
I lent a sympathetic ear to some folks in need of feedback on various situations via email. I then went to get my niece a copy of a book of sonnets that she expressed interest in. We have been working on her reading for comprehension skills lately and I introduced some poetry. She really seemed to latch on to it and we found a great jump off point. Thanks Myclette for your input about Kayla's dyslexia weeks ago. She as done a complete turn around in her school work and is now an A student. She still gets frustrated but now has a workable technique for reading comprehension and note taking. She loves poetry (thanks to Aunt Environgirl) and now has the confidence to venture into writing some poetry herself.
I was going to hit the town but now I will read some literature and chill online maybe.
How about a SONNET tonight?
I love this poem because it, lik Delight In Disorder, speaks to the dichotomy of beauty. There is more than one kind of beauty and when we fail to see it we fail ourselves. We miss the beauty unseen beauty in nature and in others when we subscribe hard and fast to the rules of "society" because it is not sterile, barbie/ken like and/or lysol clean.
This sonnet is by William Shakespeare, who is believed to have had a relationship with an African/Carribean woman who inspired this poem...here goes....
My Mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun
My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress when she walks treads on the ground.
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.-----
