howdy, howdy all! Well I am blogging from campus today, as I usually do on Mondays and Wednesdays, and just wanted to say that The State of the Union adress must have been adressing a union I know nothing about. I generally try not to discuss politics on my blog because it can get messy but there are some key points that I just have to make.
1. As president why further polarize a polarized nation by stating that you are going to talk to ministers in african american churches in order to control AIDS? Granted the rising number of AIDS cases in black and hispanic females is rising but certainly AIDS is still an epidemic that should be tackled by the nation/world in masse. Mentioning blacks and AIDS in one sentence does nothing to bring senergy to polarized nation.
2. When the president spoke of our safety he was sure to include the many dangers that we face together as a nation. Apparently all of the abortions are making this nation a dangerous place to live, not to mention the gay marriage issue. And what's all of this talk about gays trying to adopt children without homes and families? WHEW! I am glad he is on the job. Why just this morning I was held up at by a committed gay couple looking to adopt a needy child with an abortion? No...no wait...uh...yeah that didnt happen at all but it could my friends and that is what Bush wants to keep us safe from. Lukily he cut 13.5 billion from college education monies (garuanteed student loans) so that the surplus can be used for the glory of oil, clear cuts and oh no I mean other fun American stuff.
3. Since when does "ism" make everything a damn word. "Defeatism", "Protectionism", is he writing his own speeches?
4. I am more than a little concerned about his assertion that we need to "secure our borders". More sharpshooters? Continued criminalization of the mexican immigrant? At any rate I can feel the safety ,can you feel it?
5. A new big brother program is in full swing but don't worry "key members of the cabinet" are privy to the details so you won't have to be. Just keep praising the Lord, when its convenient of course, and the higher ups will do the driving.
6. I like the little touches of "our Creator" this and "our Creator" that. Don't worry he highly respects Islam and good Christian muslims the world over. Oh no wait I got it wrong again...forgive me I must have watched the wrong state of the union speech.
That is all for now and likely all in the way of politics from me for a while. Besides I still have a 1 hour lecture to deliver at 1pm and need to go over my notes again......
Oh now for the poetry.........here goes...
Madam and Her Madam
I worked for a woman,
She wasn't mean--
But she had a twelve-room
House to clean.
Had to get breakfast,
Dinner, and supper, too--
Then take care of her children
When I got through.
Wash, iron, and scrub,
Walk the dog around--
It was too much,
Nearly broke me down.
I said, Madam,
Can it be
You trying to make a
Pack-horse out of me?
She opened her mouth.
She cried, Oh, no!
You know, Alberta,
I love you so!
I said, Madam,
That may be true--
But I'll be dogged
If I love you!--Langston Hughes
