This is a path from my "neighborhood" in tiny town Mississippi:
I used to walk this path everyday when I was a kid. It used to lead to an old plantation home owned by a woman named Mrs. Witt. She was related to us in some way but how exactly escapes me just now. I once killed a snake on this path by landing on it after falling from a tree onto my back. OUCH! I have to say I was quite the sturdy chick because although I seemed to seek out bodily injury I have never been hospitalized or broken a single bone.
I saw this picture and I thought about how I much I missed leaving the pavement and cruising for a while through the woods, humming, dragging a stick along the gravel path behind me and eating honeysuckle plants. Sometimes I just wanna leave the pavement in search of honeysuckle again. As soon as next semester is over I will be free to hit the bricks again and I have to admit that I am looking forward to it. I have decided to see more of Texas. I have never really explored the Lone Star State properly and in an effort to remedy this I shall seek and find in the biggest state in the union. I know that it doesnt seem like a grand adventure to some but I havent seen much of Texas even though I have lived in Houston for a million years (well slightly fewer).
I just read an article in Texas Monthly about all things fun and great in my home state. And heck I figure that if Texas can produce Willie Nelson (A favorite musician/actor of mine) then there must be something to this state! LOL!
How about a Poem......here goes......
When Time who steals our years away
Shall steal our pleasures too,
The mem'ry of the past will stay,
And half our joys renew.
- Thomas Moore, 1779-1852
